    Description

1951 Buick Dealership Car Model Option Book with Pop Ups & Motion Displays:
Make sure you check out my other auctions!  I am always happy to combine  purchases to the extent possible to try and save you some money on shipping.
This is an original hard cover book display that would have been in a Buick dealership showroom in 1951.  It was meant to showcase the years lineup of cars and options to potential customers within the showroom.  Although it displays as a hard cover book, it opens up and stands up as an angled display piece using its own hard covers as the base/stand.  The book and pages are in REAL nice shape with a LITTLE bit of staining in small spots on a few pages, but NOTHING bad.  The cover shows the lettering of Buick for 1951 and that is displayed on the back when the book is opened up as a display.  As you flip the pages, the first one opens up a pop up of the Buick Eight for 1951!  The pages then go into detail of the model choices, wheelbases, power ratings, and styling.  A page talks about each of different models, Series 40, Special, Deluxe Special, Super, and Roadmaster.  Then the next page pops up a chassis with graphical details.  It talks about the softer ride with the following page offering motion displays on the pages.  First, as you pull the tabs on the left, the tires and shocks go up and down in motion.  The left display has a torn paper strut that needs to be glued in order to move with the tab.  On the right, the two pull tabs move the tires of the car at the top to show the action of the shocks.  Then a pop up of the engine followed by valve-in-head pistons and a moving cylinder, again by means of a pull tab at the bottom of the page.  Hydraulic lifters are detailed followed by a motion display of the engine mounts as you pull the tab to simulate the motion of the car.  The Dynaflow transmission is simulated by another pull tab that moves two cars, with the Dynaflow moving faster than the geared transmission, trying to sell you an automatic transmission!.  Hydraulic brakes are simulated on the next motion page.  Then the next pages allow you to open the car doors (with door flaps that allow you to open them) which reveal the inside of the car!  This is followed by interior details and ventilator simulation with a round dial that shows air flow within the car.  Next is E-Z-Eye Glass with the same turning motion which shows the difference in your view between a normal glass and this new improved type of glass  Bonus standard features are detailed before the last marketing efforts at the end fo the book to try and get you to buy a 1951 Buick.  Anything and everything you wanted to know about a 1951 Buick is probably somewhere within these pages!  And with the motion displays, it is sure to hold your attention because you are not just reading about them.  All of the graphics are very strong with no sign of any fading.  How cool is all of this?!  Pretty cool in my mind, that’s why I have had this piece for a long time.  But times change and it may be right to move it along to any other car nut who can enjoy it like I have.  I’m not sure how many have survived over the years but I’m guessing there can’t be many.  As a display, the book measures 25.5” wide, 18.75” deep, and 12” tall.  When flattened, the book measures 13” wide,19” tall, and just over 1” thick at the binding.  Overall, this looks very nice but short of perfect.  Since it is 69 years old, though, I will definitely give it some slack.  It definitely serves its purpose, though, of informing you of the 1951 model!  This is an outstanding advertising piece for a transportation, automobile, or Buick collection.  It will make a great addition to any of those themes!  I will be sorry to see it go but happy that it will give enjoyment to another car crazy person like me.
