It's a self teaching manual designed to teach both the beginning level with basic and instructions for new employees for freight car handbrakes It has lots of photos, and cover safety pointers. By the end of the book it has covered some very technical and advanced information. It is in very good condition with a little bit of browning on the front, as well as wear to the edges and corners, but the inside page is a very clean and very easy to read. The back cover has a large crease, But you could probably work it back into place. Please see all of the photos above to confirm the condition and the contents of the manual.

This book was put together and printed by Penn Central company. It was produced by the manager of employee practices in training, and the manager of safety, in Philadelphia, PA.  It measures approx. 8.5" x 5.5".
This is a self teaching manual designed to teach the reader the operation of handbrakes. It gives the students a chance to take a short self test at the end of each section.
It starts off with at the very beginning level and gives a lot of basic and instructions for new employees.
The manual covers only freight car handbrakes and the handbrake is used to slow down a moving car to stop it, and to hold it in place, Kind of like cars have parking brakes or emergency brakes.
The book contains lots of photos, and explains each of the points in very clear writing. It also cover safety pointers
By the time it gets to the end of the book it has covered some very technical and advanced information.
This is a great find for people who like to collect items for the railroad industry.
As you can see in the photos the booklet does not have any kind of cover in front or in back. We do not believe that it ever had a cover because there's no remnants of a cover.
The manual is in very good condition there is a little bit of browning on the front, as well as wear to the edges and corners, but the inside page is a very clean and very easy to read. The back cover has a large crease, But you could probably work it back into place.
