Description
Two dozen empty shipping cylinder tubes with metal caps that screw onto the cardboard cylinder containers. Never been used but have been stored in barn since the 1920s and 1930s in Massachusetts. These containers were here when my family moved here in 1972. The previous owners had lived here for over 50 years. They told our family of having this old farmhouse as a summer place until the depression hit. Then they had to sell their regular house about 35 miles away and move here. To make ends meet the fellow concocted a radiator repair liquid for cars and tractors, etc. He marketed this and sold it by mail - shipped in these containers during the 1920s and 1930s. The tubes are made by the "Improved Mailing Case Co." in New York - this is stamped on the bottom plate which is metal. We've read where many liquids and medicines and medical testing samples were shipped at the time in this type of cylinder container. - approved by the post office. The stamps were affixed to the cardboard. This box holds 24 tubes and 24 metal covers - some are already screwed onto the cardboard tube and some cover/caps are loose. They don't fit terrific and take some patience to screw onto the container. The metal has some discoloration and corrosion due to age as can be seen in the pictures. Fairly clean with some blemishes here and there on the cardboard. No holes nor writing on them. Sturdy and stiff - measure about 1 3/8 inches across opening and about 3 1/2 inches deep - both are inside dimension. Can be used for art and craft projects or for storage/organizing or historical reproductions or for mailing things today. The pictures are of the actual containers you will receive. Many ideas for usage. We have more available - let us know.
