This vintage volume is ''Seaboard Air Line Railroad Company Operating Rules'' dated September 17, 1962. The hardcover volume measures 4 by 7 inches and contains 162 pages. The boards are dark green cloth with gilt lettering on the front. This is book number 2750 and has the name of telegraph operator Hiram Darden and the date 8/17/62 written inside the front board. The boards show a bit of age and handling wear, and some numerals are written on the first free endpaper, but otherwise the volume is clean, unmarked and in very nice shape.
Hiram Jefferson Darden was born Nov. 15, 1933, in Monroe County, Ga. After serving in the Army, he began a career in the railroad industry with Seaboard Air Line and retired as a trainmaster rom CSX Railroad in 1985 after more than 30 years of service. He died Aug. 14, 2021, in LaGrange, Ga.
